Modernizing colonial architecture

A team of architectural engineers and urban planners is trying to make colonial architecture more sustainable by transforming a portion of the colonial-era brick building at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture into a modern, urbanized space.

The project, called the Colonial House, is slated to be completed in 2017.

The new building will be the third to be built in a building that has served as a museum for the black community since 1826.

The first was the historic Old House on Independence Avenue in Philadelphia.

“The museum was the catalyst for our work on this project,” said Robert A. Smith, the project manager at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

“It really opened the door to thinking about how we can transform that building into something that is sustainable and modern.”

It will be a mix of architecture and history, and a blend of the best of both worlds, said David L. Brown, an architectural historian who has studied the structure.

The building will have a new courtyard and the museum will have its own green space and indoor plaza.

“This is a building we have never seen before in our city,” said Brown.

“And so, I think it will be an important moment for our city and for the city of Philadelphia.”

The Colonial House has the distinction of being the first building in the United States to be designed by a black architect, and it is also the first to be completely re-purposed as a modern office building.

The work started in 2007 when the Philadelphia Preservation Trust purchased the building for $3.4 million and restored it to its former glory.

“I’ve been in the building, the restoration, and I’ve seen what it can do,” said Paul Pugh, the preservation director.

“When you get the opportunity to do something like this, you have to look at it and say, ‘Wow, I wish we could have done this for something that wasn’t historic.'”

The building has a history dating back to the 1830s.

It was first completed as the new home of the Dutch East India Company and later became the Colonial Office Building in 1853.

The Colonial Office building in New York was the second-oldest building in Philadelphia and was originally named the Royal Exchange.

But it was converted to a museum in the late 19th century.

The museum’s original location is now the Smithsonian National Museum and Art, and the Colonial Building was later moved to the National Museum in Washington, D.C. It has served in various roles, including as a residence for the Smithsonian and the American Museum of Natural History.

It also has a museum collection, including the paintings of Robert Louis Stevenson and Alexander Graham Bell.

The buildings exterior features a variety of styles and colors.

It is designed to be “a living, breathing museum that reflects our city, our culture and our history,” said Pugh.

The team plans to complete the building by the end of the decade.

The preservation team, which includes the American Heritage Museum, has also been working on a renovation of the Museum of Colonial Art, a landmark museum building in Washington that opened in 2011.

The plan for that project includes the creation of an entire new museum in Washington dedicated to the history of colonial America, according to Brown.

The two projects will be funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, and both are supported by the Smithsonian Council on the Arts.

“They are just two of the major institutions that are very committed to preserving and preserving our history in this country,” said David Smith, who is leading the project.

“In the city we’re at a moment where our history is being celebrated and our culture is being taken up by all of these new museums.”
